Industrial Environmental Monitoring

This area of the Company’s environmental activities deserves special attention. The current system of the industrial environmental monitoring allows accurate tracking of the environmental situation in the region and getting a true-to-life picture of the natural environment situation. This system makes it possible to analyze the effectiveness of the environment conservation measures, to solve promptly the environmental problems and eliminate emergency situations in a timely manner.

The system of industrial environmental monitoring of PJSC TATNEFT is implemented in the following areas:

  • determination and measurements related to the environment protection;
  • maintenance of databases for the sources of environmental impact and environmental setting, as well as processing and analysis of information;
  • determination of compliance of the impact source with environmental requirements;
  • analysis and forecast of the environment conditions in the region;
  • development of the industrial environmental monitoring in new areas of activities.

The operating in the Company laboratories for monitoring the water bodies and air status are equipped with high-performance equipment and are properly certified and accredited.

The air condition is monitored in more than 100 large and small settlements located in the area of the Company’s operations and sanitary protection zones of the production facilities. About 12 thousand tests to determine the current state of the atmosphere are performed each year.

The air basin studies are conducted by 33 ingredients (hydrocarbons, hydrogen sulfide, nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide and others) in parallel with meteorological observations: measuring the wind speed and direction, the air temperature and relative humidity.

About 2 thousand air analyses are performed each year in order to comply with the established standards of maximum permissible emissions (MPE) of pollutants into the air.

There is a local network of the water bodies observation points functioning within the license areas of PJSC TATNEFT’s activities designed for protection and rational use of water resources.

Currently the observation system consists of 2688 sampling points. These include observation points of the surface (springs, rivers, water pools) and groundwater bodies (boreholes, wells).

The water analysis is performed by the following parameters typical for the situations influenced by crude oil production: chloride ions, sulfate ions, total hardness, hydro carbonates, pH, calcium, anionic surfactants, and petroleum products in dissolved and emulsified condition.

In aggregate more than 130,000 natural water analyses are annually performed by the Company as part of the industrial environmental control.

Environmental assessment is conducted with a high degree of efficiency. In many respects it is a credit of the experts’ teams from the Kazan State University, a number of ministries and departments, as well as the employees of TatNIPIneft, who have contributed to creation of a unique geo information system. This system makes it possible to use large amounts of data to form a true-to-life picture of the natural environment situation, to perform a comprehensive environmental zoning taking into account not only the activities of the PJSC TATNEFT’s production facilities, but also the environmental impact of all other economic infrastructure facilities.
